Motel Dacia

The staff were nice, and there’s a good restaurant at this motel near the highway. Our Sunday visit coincided with a celebration in the restaurant, though, and the music was so loud it felt like it was in our room. It stopped around 11 pm.

We arrived at 10 P.M. to find that our booked room had been given to someone else, and there was nothing available for us. With everywhere fully booked for the legal holiday, we had nowhere to go. They only told us about the cancellation when we got there. The staff's attitude was horrible. I wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel, but giving our room to another guest without telling us in good time was awful. The day before, they had called to say we’d get a lower quality room and pay 120 lei instead of the 100 lei quoted two weeks earlier. Their reason was that demand was high because of the holiday. If you want a peaceful night, don’t even think of booking here. Apparently, an agreement doesn’t matter to them.

We stopped for dinner once, fairly late. The waiter warned us that ordering might not be possible because of the hour, though we did manage to order. It was packed, noisy and unpleasantly chaotic. The drinks were okay, but the food was a letdown, and I think the kitchen staff need retraining. Our starter salad was drowning in mayonnaise, so we couldn't taste the vegetables. For the main, we ordered pork steak and fries with cabbage salad. The meat looked dried out across the plate and was cold; the fries were hard and cold too. It was all too crunchy to eat. We paid and left. If you go, stick to drinks, for your own safety.

It was clean, the food was good, and the prices seemed fair. Being able to check in late at night is handy. Our room was a little chilly, though, and the radiator had no thermostat installed. We could also hear noise from other rooms, probably because the walls are thin.
