Hanul Vestem

We booked four nights at Hanul Veștem because it seemed perfect for the cottagecore-themed week I’d been planning for six months. From the outside it looks nice, but that was about the only good part. The room was poorly cleaned, the sheets were torn, and there was no AC. Even with the window open, it stayed around 30 degrees. We thought we could put up with that if it was peaceful, since the remote location was one reason we chose it. But the local stray dogs barked through the first two nights, and on the third, a nearby restaurant held a private party on Thursday. Around 2 am, we called and were told it would last at most another half hour. Forty-five minutes later, the volume was still rising, with live singers shouting and bass thumping. We called again and again, but nobody picked up. At 3 am the party was still going, and we had to call the police twice before the partygoers took the authorities seriously. The next day, the receptionist’s free-roaming dog greeted us downstairs with loud barking. Our complaints were met with an indifferent attitude. The receptionist didn’t speak English, so my Romanian husband had to translate everything. They knew about the parties but hadn’t mentioned them anywhere. We changed hotels and were immediately happier there. The only good thing was getting compensation for one unused night. I’d recommend admiring this place from outside.
