Breakfast was a strong point. There was a good range of cold food, from cheeses, cold meats, fish, dips and spreads to salads, fruit and yoghurt. Plenty of coffee machines were ready and well stocked, and the bread section had rolls, toast, pastries and cakes, alongside cereal, pancakes and nuts. The buffet was spread out with plenty of tables. Breakfast staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. The hot food was cold, though, and needed lids to keep it warm. Our room was huge, as the photos show, and the view from the Presidential Suite in the north east corner on the 11th floor was amazing, over the Historic Center. The hotel itself is spacious, but the rooms are dated. Ours was grand and had a king-size bed, but the design felt like the 1990s. The room description on Booking.com listed a kettle and toaster, neither of which was there. Coffee and tea weren’t replenished one day, and the cleaning was below standard. The kitchenette was just a small bar sink and a roughly one-metre bench with a microwave. The bar area had a bench and a stocked minibar. We ordered room service once and were satisfied. There are three parking choices. The covered garage costs €10 per night, charged as 50 Ron at checkout, and has around 30 spaces, subject to availability. You press a button to open the garage door when leaving. On the way in, the door opens once the boom gate is lifted. Outdoor parking on the hotel grounds costs €7-8 per night, with about 12 spaces, also subject to availability. Spaces aren’t reserved. If you leave after staying more than one night, you lose your spot, so getting one when you return from a day trip or check in depends on what’s free. Reception can open the boom gate using a camera. Be patient, or call the number displayed there. We had no trouble. There’s also plenty of paid street parking. Strada Nicolae Bălcescu, with its cafes, shops and restaurants, is a five-minute walk away. Piata Mare, where the Christmas Market is held, takes about 11 minutes on foot. Check-in and checkout were efficient. There are only two lifts for all the floors and rooms, and each fits four people with luggage, so expect a wait during the breakfast rush. We had noise from a venue across from the hotel on the east side, with music going until 5am and people leaving drunk and loudly. It happened only on Thursday 26th Dec. We expected the same on Friday and Saturday, but the venue was closed. I suspect it was hired for that one night. It wasn’t something the hotel could control, and we only experienced it one night of our four-night stay.
