Zum Weissen Lamm Residence

We spent five nights at Mielul alb, just a five-minute walk from the small market. The apartment's huge room is beautifully decorated, almost like a little museum hall, and has everything needed for comfort. The hospitality felt purely Transylvanian. We were there during a heat wave, but the high attic and tiled roof kept things cool in Saxon style, much more efficiently and healthily than artificial air conditioning, which would have spoiled the inn's authenticity. The heritage architecture has been preserved thoughtfully. Thermal panels are fitted inside the windows without removing the wooden frames, the lanterns are still on the facade, and the creaky parquet has been varnished. The floor slopes a little, so the wardrobe and library stand like the Tower of Pisa. There's also a kitchenette just outside the room by the entrance, stocked with everything you'd have at home. We didn't use it, since we had all our meals, coffee included, in the old town. Access is through a large gate that's always open, along a corridor, then up a few wooden steps on the left to the kitchen door. If I may suggest something, the common areas could use a bit of attention to match the rest: varnish the gate, paint the facade, refurbish the sign, and find a permanent solution for the garbage, since the dumpsters don't hold enough. A lovely extra is the Charlie terrace downstairs, where you can have coffee and breakfast unlike anywhere else. Right across the street there's also a grocery store open from 6:30 to 22:30. If you're driving, parking costs 10 lei per day. You can get a ticket from the machine on the corner or online, but, as in any European city, finding a free space is a big lottery.
