DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sighisoara - Cavaler

The rooms were clean, and breakfast was decent. There’s an indoor pool and a heated outdoor hot tub, along with all the amenities you’d need. We stayed overnight and weren’t disappointed. From the hotel balcony, you can see the walled city, just a few minutes’ walk away.

The location is convenient for the old town sights, and breakfast is acceptable. But the facilities are dated: stained carpet, just one chair and no other seating, no sink stopper unless you ask the front desk, and the temperature controls don’t work. WiFi was very slow and unstable the whole time. At night, the only person at the front desk invited three friends over to talk and play music. It was loud throughout the hotel, with one speaker right outside my door. I went downstairs several times before the problem was dealt with, since calls to the desk went unanswered. The convenient location doesn’t make up for the management and facilities falling well short of a four-star standard.

The pool, sauna, and hamman are great, but I got yelled at by the receptionist before I could use them. Service was poor overall. The facilities are okay, though they urgently need renovation: half the room lights were missing and the bathroom was falling apart. The bed was good. Our room faced the main road, and the poor sound insulation made it too noisy to sleep well, which is a basic expectation for a hotel of this claimed standard.

Avoid this hotel. The room door was wide open when I arrived, and the floor was dirty with food prices all over it. They changed my booking rate before arrival and switched me from one king bed to two beds, unfolding the sofa bed for no reason. Staff were rude and spent more time on their phones than working. They promised a refund several times but never paid it. They also wouldn’t let me order room service to the room because they were worried about stains damaging the bed, despite having a room service menu. Since this was a business booking, I needed an invoice, but it took over a month to get one. Probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed in.
