Cumpatu Sinaia Hotel

The location is beautiful, with a terrace, mountain views, and pleasant rooms. The people are trying, but the food and service were really disappointing. Our first order took ages, and the waiter seemed unsure what we’d asked for. The food and drinks were underwhelming, didn’t taste good, and felt especially expensive for what we got. After a mediocre breakfast, we ordered pasta the next evening. It took a full 45 minutes, and the waitress brought drinks before and after the meal. One of those was a Campari, served after the pasta despite being ordered at the same time. The service was awful. For us, this hotel is worth two and a half stars, maybe three at most, not four.

There’s a peaceful spot on the grounds with hammocks and an artificial pond, great for looking at the stars. The hotel itself feels cozy and well kept, with large rooms and the utilities you need, plus two small bottles of wine. The sauna wasn’t available when we arrived because it was being maintained. It’s close to the forest, very quiet, and has a lovely view of the Bucegi mountains. The restaurant has plenty to choose from, from traditional to international food. The burger was delicious, and I highly recommend the papanași.

The garden was lovely, and the restaurant had plenty of options at reasonable prices. Breakfast was good, with some variety. The location is a real highlight, deep in the forest and away from the crowded Sinaia center. The bathroom was large, modern, clean, and looked good, but the rest of the room let things down. The furniture has seen better days, the main door took a lot of effort to open, and the other doors creaked. The bed was uncomfortable, the phone didn’t work, and there were lots of spiderwebs on the balcony. One garden light shone into the room all night. Nobody told me beforehand that the sauna was under renovation, either. I don’t think the hotel offers good value for its price.

The staff were friendly and the service was good, and the hotel is in a nice spot with a very good view. But our room smelled bad when we arrived. The curtains blocked the window from opening, and they were too short to make the room dark. There was a big yellow stain on the ceiling, and the wardrobe door wouldn’t close. The restaurant music was so loud it could have been a wedding. We had to yell to hear one another. I can’t really call this a four-star hotel, probably three stars or less.
