Hotel Zamca Suceava

We booked a standard double room directly on the hotel website almost a month ahead, not through Booking.com. I landed at midnight with my two children, and when we saw the room I was shocked. It was so late that I had no choice but to put the kids to bed. The website photos didn’t match what we found, and couldn’t prepare us for it. My youngest was sick the next morning from the smell we’d had to put up with all night, and couldn’t even eat breakfast. The receptionist offered only an upgrade to an apartment, saying all the other rooms were booked. That surprised me because the hotel seemed quite empty, including the parking and breakfast areas. I was also told that because I hadn’t booked through Booking.com, the hotel website didn’t show which rooms had been renovated. Why not say on the website which rooms are renovated and which aren’t? Even in the upgraded room, the difference in price didn’t feel justified by the quality. I can’t recommend the rooms or service. The restaurant was expensive, but the food was tasty and nicely presented.

The staff were kind of rude, especially during breakfast, and the beds were pretty uncomfortable. About half the rooms are quite nice, but the other half are genuinely disgusting. The shower cabin looks ready to fall apart. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want to feel welcome.

The staff’s reaction when a problem is raised is the reason I’d say no to this hotel. They also charge twice as much for breakfast if it wasn’t reserved through Booking, and don’t warn guests when they ask about breakfast. The setup is old and cramped, the mattress is bad, the rooms have no AC, and the shower corner is uncomfortable and poorly maintained. If you can, avoid this “nice” hotel.
