Lary Hostel

The accommodation was nice, and the owner was a very nice person, but her help went too far. I wanted to book a train and had already given her all my cash for the room, so I needed to pay for the ticket by credit card, which she didn't accept. She insisted on booking a bus instead and put me on it. I got the impression there would be a bus station at the destination where I could use my card. There was only an ATM. I don't know what she had told the driver, but he kept my $500 camera, which had all my trip photos, as collateral. I spent an extra night in Brasov, made local bus trips, and called the driver several times before I got it back. Being helpful is one thing, but overriding a guest's decision is another. I also wasn't keen on the food, especially the breakfast meat. The place is outside the city, and without your own car there's not much you can do. It was a bad experience despite the nice accommodation and the owner's kindness.

She was funny and delightful, and seemed to enjoy spending time with us. Her English wasn't very good, but I had a really nice stay and found it a lovely place to rest. I stayed one night, and the distance was the only downside: it's a 1 km walk to the bus stop, then 10 minutes by bus to the centro. She took me to the stop, and later drove me to the bus terminal when I was leaving town, even though she didn't have to. I also got a free dinner after checking out.

The owner's care was exquisite, like being at your grandmother's house. The hostel isn't the best equipped and may not be the cleanest you've ever seen, but the way you're treated earns it a 10/10.

A great spot to spend the night, with a super friendly owner. There was fresh coffee ready in the morning.
