Timișoara Hotel

We spent New Year at Hotel Timișoara and loved the location, right by Victory Square with the Opera House and main sights just a few steps away. We could see the square from the hotel, and got around on foot without needing transport. The room was spacious and very clean, though I’d have preferred a proper king-size bed to the two twin beds pushed together. We also got two sleepers and two bathrobes, but one robe was ripped at the armpit. After a day out, I enjoyed the spa and indoor pool. The pool was somewhat crowded over New Year. Breakfast was another highlight, with lots of fresh choices including fruit, vegetables, coffee, tea, and meat. Great value for such a prime location, and I’ll definitely come back. Highly recommended for business or leisure in Timișoara.

The location is the only good thing here. The front desk staff were rude, and the hotel staff didn’t seem to care. Asking for something won’t get it brought to you. The bar drinks are mediocre, and it’s laughable to call this a four-star hotel. The place is dated and falling apart. The flooring is literally coming apart, the shower head looks like it hasn’t been changed in a decade, and there were no Kleenex tissues in the room. You get one stick of instant coffee. The rooms smell because they don’t run the AC. There’s no proper AC, just heat or AC, and staff kept it on heat even while we were sweating. With the windows open, road noise made it impossible to sleep.

There was no value for money here. At check-in, we found out the spa, which was supposed to be open, was closed until 11am the next day. After a long drive, that was disappointing, especially since the spa was one of the reasons we chose the Timisoara hotel. The room was poorly soundproofed. We could hear the neighbors talking, movement in the corridor, and noise from above. Hygiene was poor too: hair in the bed, dust on the floor, a dirty shower, and unwashed tiles. Walking barefoot in the room wasn’t advisable. The toilet flush only partly worked, the towels were torn, and the bathroom sink was partly clogged. There were no outlets by the bed or in the bathroom, only near the desk. There was no coffee machine either, and a kettle with instant coffee powder doesn’t count as one. The best part was reception clerk Marius (sorry I didn’t catch your last name!). We booked through a tour operator and shared our bad experience with them, but the hotel didn’t even respond to them.

The location is great, and the breakfast buffet is good. The main bed was comfortable, but the living room couch was far too small to sleep on in couch mode. Pull it out and the metal bars make your back hurt. The rooms are so dim they feel like a depressing dungeon, and poorly insulated windows let cold air in. One day they let Glovo deliver to my room, but the next day they wouldn’t.
