Hostel Fair and Square

The room didn’t look like the photos. The towels they gave me were old, dirty, and smelled bad. Once I got to the room, the door was filthy, with black dirt on it, as if it had never been cleaned. The room itself was very dirty, with spider webs in several places, and then I saw bugs: spiders, a ladybug, and a centipede. The bedsheet was old, smelled bad, and had holes. It looked like someone had already slept in it. Under the pillowcase, the pillow was yellow, as though it hadn’t been cleaned. The walls were dirty too, with lots of splashes from unidentified liquids. The trash bin was so dirty I didn’t want to touch it or use it. The bathroom floor smelled like vomit, there were dots on the toilet, and the shower was covered in mold with lots of hair at the bottom. There was no sign of basic hygiene or cleaning, and I felt staying there could be dangerous for my health. They didn’t give me a refund. I understand it’s a hostel, but this place doesn’t meet minimum hygiene standards. I had to book somewhere else at the last minute.

The atmosphere was good, and people were calm. I’d say it was almost clean, and for the price it’s the best, a haven for low-budget travelers. I didn’t use the bed, just needed the restroom and a shower. They let me shower even though I arrived early, which was exactly what I needed at the time. They don’t take cards for drinks, though :(. The hot shower was amazing, and the staff were helpful and friendly. I got lots of useful tips for getting around the country. The hostel is clean and really nice, and the pet cat and dog are very friendly. It fills up fast. I stayed two nights and had a great experience overall. It’s not very close to the center, but there’s a bus stop nearby. The only issue for me was the bunk beds. I don’t like them, and they were shaky and noisy.

The shared spaces were great, and the staff were friendly. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and roomy, plus the kitchen had everything we needed. A great Belgrade hostel, especially with free public transport nearby.
