Nova City Hotel Signature Collection

We paid €50 for a room so my mother could get a white card. Reception told us she had to spend the night there for the card to be issued, so we took her in at night and collected her in the morning. Breakfast was included. While she was eating for about 20 minutes, €200 disappeared from her things. A maid entered the room during breakfast. When my mother came back, her belongings had been moved around, so she realized someone had searched through them. We believe a hotel employee waited until she went to eat and then went through her things. She was carrying $1,100 and €800; the employee took €200, perhaps to avoid attracting too much attention. My mother only told me after I'd picked her up. She speaks neither English nor Serbian, couldn't explain or clarify what happened, and was too shy to bring it up sooner. Her kindness was the only thing that stopped me from making a scene. I would have called the police, reported the theft, complained to every authority and made a mess for everyone involved. It's disgraceful. I'd been praising Serbia and saying how kind and pleasant people here are. My mother came to visit and support me through a hard time, and this left such a disgusting impression of the country's culture. This isn't a budget hostel. It's a hotel, not an economy-class one, and it should be accountable for its staff. She didn't want to argue because she thought we were guests here. But guests shouldn't be robbed while staff smile at them. I hope the maid truly needed the money. I'm not writing to get it back or prove anything, just so people know how guests are treated and how little security there seems to be in the rooms. We're not struggling, but what about people who saved for medical treatment, or spent years putting money aside for a holiday to see important places in the country? What are they meant to do? For me, this isn't about the money. It's the attitude, and the feeling that this may be a regular scheme among hotel staff, which makes it even more horrifying. I've attached the room receipt in case the management claims this negative review is from competitors and refuses to investigate. We have proof we paid for the room, showing we're real people.

The staff were kind and friendly, and breakfast was excellent. The hotel has spacious rooms and was very nice.

We felt at home here, even though we were 10,000 km from home. The young staff were kind, helpful and took pride in their work. They were respectful and trustworthy, and the place was clean. Breakfast was freshly made each day, including traditional Serbian food. There was secure parking around the clock, even space for a tour bus, and a market just steps away. We also found a florist, fresh fruit seller, restaurants and sightseeing nearby. It's a welcoming, centrally located spot among Belgrade's beauty, whether you're visiting family or here for business. We'll definitely stay again. If you're in the area, it feels like home.

The rooms are modern, roomy enough for a family, and the public transport is easy and convenient, even though the hotel is a bit far from the centre. The breakfast was very poor, though. My kids couldn't eat much of it, so I bought chocolate cream at the market, but the woman in charge of the restaurant wouldn't let them have it. She said it was a rule, and seemed to make up rules for whatever she didn't like. Her attitude was awful and she wasn't patient with kids. She acted like she ran the whole hotel, wasn't constructive or focused on guests, and I'd never had service that bad at a hotel. When I complained, the receptionist couldn't do anything. There's no one with authority to sort out a problem. It felt like they didn't want guests eating breakfast there. It's a decent place to stay, but skip breakfast unless you want to deal with that attitude.
