Hostel Put Svile

We’d warned them that we’d be arriving late, after midnight, since we were traveling at night. When we got there, they demanded twice the price we’d paid online through RBNB. They had no right to ask for so much extra cash after taking the money there. We just got up and left. The people were very rude and seemed to want to steal our money. Scammers, avoid this place if you can.

The owners are what make this place. They’re incredibly warm and welcoming, almost like family, and honestly nicer than mine! The rooms are small, pod-style spaces, so keep that in mind. The price is good, and the location is super convenient, just 10 steps from the bus station if you arrive late. My bus got in at 11pm and I had nowhere else to go. I meant to stay one night, but I’m on my third and don’t want to leave. It’s a 10-minute walk into the center.

We only stayed one night on our way to Belgrade, though we could easily have stayed much longer. The owner was the nicest guy we met. He made us Serbian coffee to try, and it was really good. He also had great suggestions for food and places to have a drink. After dinner we bought him a beer and shared local music. It was a great place to stay, and Subotica is a nice city to walk around.

The owner, Zoran, went out of his way to help us and made us feel at home. He was incredibly generous. The beds were clean and so comfortable, and the place is a short walk from the station, right next to the bus station. I can’t recommend it enough.
