What stood out to me most about Serbia was how much the country offers beyond what travelers might expect. Its history and heritage show up in the architecture, customs, and everyday character, shaped by the Medieval past, Ottoman legacies, Austro-Hungarian influence, and the modern Balkans. It all feels natural rather than arranged for tourists. Belgrade has a lively café scene and nightlife that can hold its own alongside other European cities. Beyond the capital, Serbia’s hills, forests, river canyons, lowlands, and mountains offer a striking range of natural scenery, much of it still largely untouched by mass tourism. Wherever I went, people were willing to share their history, food, and customs with me in a direct, welcoming way. Their passion, humor, persistence, and pride made the experience feel personal and satisfying. The people are warm, friendly, and proud of their culture. I also really enjoyed the food, especially ćevapi, pljeskavica, and burek, and found the prices very good compared with Western Europe. Serbia’s musical traditions and strong family and community ties add to its distinctive spirit. It’s a vibrant, memorable place with plenty of culture, nightlife, and history, without feeling overly touristy. I’d highly recommend it, five out of five.

Right in the centre of Vrbas, the hotel’s staff were friendly throughout our stay. The beds were comfortable, but the room was cold and neither the A/C nor the heater worked. Exposed pipes and cables didn’t make it feel cozy, the room wasn’t especially clean, and the bathroom fell far below my standards. It also took ages for the water to warm up. Breakfast was a real letdown. I ordered the sweet option and got three stale slices of bread, two packets of butter that had expired four months earlier, in November 2023, plus two packets each of low-quality jam and honey. We stayed for two nights because there wasn’t really another short-notice option. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

The shower in our room stopped working, but a "handyman" came and fixed it, so we could use it again. The beds were comfortable and everything was fairly clean, though the hotel itself looks old-fashioned.

The front desk staff were the only ones who spoke English; the rest spoke none. The rooms looked very old and dirty, and nobody on staff seemed to smile. I was very disappointed and won’t be coming back.

A nice, quiet spot for an overnight stay. The beds weren’t very comfortable, but you get what you pay for.
