Apartments Zrenjanin

We stayed for 15 days and had a pleasant time. Everything is conveniently close, with restaurants, shops and the city center all about a 5-minute walk away. The main host was good and understanding, and the lady host deserves a mention for being flexible with arrangements and housekeeping. I’d highly recommend it to people visiting the city for any reason.

The ground-floor room was spacious, clean, recently renovated and modern, with a small kitchen. It had air conditioning, but its two vertical windows couldn’t be opened. Ants showed up only when crumbs were left on the floor, so perhaps the upstairs rooms don’t have that issue. Even with those downsides, I liked the room and would return. The price, location and included services made this the best choice for us. Breakfast was served at a nearby restaurant/cafe, and the extra cost was worth it. The property is close to the city center without being so close that noise is a problem. The owners live in the same interior yard and are usually around, and the gate only opens with a code, so safety wasn’t an issue.

Apartment number 14 was clean and had enough room beside the bed for me to make breakfast, but there was only a fridge, no oven. They don’t clean your room unless you remind them. Still, it’s in the town center and the price is fair.

The room had a minibar and AC, and the bed was comfortable, though dirty. I found cockroaches, including one crawling on the bed, which terrified me, and hairs that weren't mine on the sheets and elsewhere. The walls were so thin I could hear the next room's... activities. With windows facing the street, keeping them shut was the only way to have privacy. I asked the cleaner to sort out a few things, but she left the room in worse shape. The forks looked clean when I got back, but felt sticky, apparently because dishes are washed using water from the bathroom sink. The water was yellow, and reports that Zrenjanin's water contains alarming levels of arsenic made me uneasy about using it even to shower. Breakfast is included, but you have to leave the building for a nearby cafe. I wish I'd photographed the greasy, battered, awful-looking dishes served at the Kafemat. On top of this, they don't give receipts or properly register tourists with the police, as hotels in Serbia are supposed to. I was fined 50 euros for that. When I asked about it on WhatsApp, they blocked me. A thoroughly unpleasant stay, with service and accommodation to match.
