The market is close enough to walk to, and Kimironko has everything from souvenirs to ripe avocados and juicy pineapples. I like picking up fruit to share with Christine Prosper and their adventurous little princess D, and they may offer you some Rwandan food as well. Upstairs feels private, with a balcony where you can catch the sunrise. Downstairs, where the family lives, things are usually lively, and the hosts are warm and generous. It's my home away from home when I'm in Kigali, and the location is handy for the airport.

Isimbi house has been a lovely base for exploring Kimironko and Kigali. A moto ride to most places costs about $50 cents to $1.50, and the daily market is only a quick 10-minute walk away. You can pick up fruit, ingredients to cook in the family's kitchen, or kitenge to have made into a handbag, dress, shirt, or even a cover for your kicks. This is a student-budget B&B, so don't come expecting luxury. What you do get is a real slice of Rwandan life at a very affordable price. Christine is a warm, loving host, and guests are welcomed to the table for Rwandan food, laughter, and genuine hospitality. There are always friendly people around the house. Upstairs, the guest area has a quiet balcony with a breeze and true high-speed internet. Dogs, chickens, and ducks wander the yard. Their young daughter is quite a character, full of energy and fun. She moves naturally between French, English, and Knyarwandan, speaking all three with ease.

My experience was very bad. They cancelled at the last minute and didn't reimburse me. That's unacceptable, and I really can't recommend this place. Don't go.
