Mountain View Hotel & Apartment

I especially recommend staying in the apartment section, particularly Apartment 3. The staff, including Thierry, Frank, Sandra, and the room service team, were very kind. The manager was warm and down to earth, serving, smiling, and talking to us like a friend instead of acting important. His humility felt like a quiet example of approachable, dignified, human leadership in Africa. A wonderful place to stay, highly recommended.

The rooftop restaurant area gives you a stunning view of the city lights. I also really liked the pool and the comfortable rooms. The food was amazing, and the service was top notch. I’d definitely recommend it.

I’d happily stay here again. The view was lovely, and I appreciated the mosquito nets and the hot water for showers. Staff were ready to answer questions and the service was excellent. My one gripe: breakfast was included, but I had to pay extra to take it away.

I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel. My stay at Mountain View Hotel from 12/05 - 13/05/2025, booked through booking.com, was one of my worst hotel experiences. I chose it hoping for a quiet night before my flight back to Germany, but a hotel party with unbelievably loud music and a microphone went on until 01:30 AM. When I asked the manager to calm the drunk crowd, he smiled and called it “difficult.” The stay was bad overall, and I felt intimidated by him. The dispute began when I asked to use the free airport shuttle advertised on booking.com. The manager said I had to stay at least two nights to qualify, though that condition wasn’t included in the hotel listing. After he refused the shuttle, I paid for my food and drinks but declined to pay for the room, saying we could settle it through booking.com, which had my credit card for security. Instead of trying to resolve things, the manager told security to lock the gate and approach me. I ran to get out of the compound and shouted for help because I feared the guard would attack me. I felt very threatened and afraid for my life. After people nearby took an interest, the manager agreed to call a taxi and have the hotel pay. When the driver arrived, the manager tried to mislead me by telling him in Kinyarwanda that I would pay at the airport. I asked the driver to say in English, in front of the hotel, that the hotel was covering the ride, and recorded it. I then agreed to pay the room bill. Even then, the manager tried to charge $49,30 instead of $44,73. I noticed and complained. Staff, especially security, along with guests and locals, saw what happened. There was no police in the area. The manager is called “Gaspar.” The whole incident was over what I see as a dishonest customer policy and an advertised service being restricted by an unclear hotel rule. I like Rwanda and have visited many times, but this behavior is completely unacceptable. I hope the complaint is taken seriously. This man does not seem suited to managing a hotel, and I’d urge others not to stay and risk a similar experience.
