The meals were delicious, served every day, and adapted to our dietary preferences. The lodge also supplied all the complementary gear for birdwatching and gorilla trekking, which gave us vivid, unforgettable memories of being close to nature. The staff made the stay: Damor mixed excellent cocktails to our taste during happy hour, Bonheur joined us on the gorilla trek and shared detailed knowledge of the area and nearby farmland, and Patience explained the locally grown ingredients and how breakfast was prepared. David and Leila brought warm, accommodating energy to dinner each evening, while Dinah and Alya tailored our stay and took care of every request. Sambora Lodge is a gem for hospitality. My wife and I couldn’t have asked for a better honeymoon, and we’re definitely coming back with family and friends.

The food was fantastic, fresh, healthy, and beautifully presented. They grow their own vegetables, and it showed in the meals. The restaurant is cozy, with a shared table that made it easy to have nice social moments with other guests. There’s also a lovely spa. I stayed at Sambora Kinigi for two nights, and it was one of the most memorable parts of my trip. I was traveling alone, but the team made me feel at home right away with their kindness and attentive service. My room was comfortable and thoughtfully designed, with lots of character and a warm African touch, and the whole place felt peaceful and intimate. I also got a beautiful, unexpected traditional welcome dance when I arrived. The lodge is just a short drive from the Gorilla trekking meeting point, which made things easy. I’d 100% recommend it for a relaxing, authentic stay. I left refreshed, cared for, and grateful.

The team arranged my gorilla trek and other activities, so everything felt easy and stress-free. I loved the boutique feel and the communal dining table, where delicious meals brought together guests from all over the world. When a minor room issue came up, the staff quickly upgraded me to a beautiful suite at no extra cost. I stayed at Sambora Kinigi in July, though this is long overdue, and it was unforgettable. Everyone was warm and attentive, and I felt at home straight away. There was a sweet dog who had just had puppies; one of them slept in my room, and it was clear the animals were well cared for. It added to the family atmosphere. I can’t recommend Sambora Kinigi enough. It was one of my most special travel experiences!

The chef’s meals were a highlight, with high-end cooking and a delicious local touch. Sambora Lodge also makes trekking easy: they provide rainjackets and gaiters, clean your boots, and take care of laundry after hikes. Every evening, we returned to cozy rooms with a lit fireplace and pre-warmed sheets. The place is just a short drive from the park head office for gorilla and golden monkey treks, making it an ideal base for Volcanoes National Park. It exceeded our expectations, with thoughtful details that made the stay comfortable and smooth. Highly recommended for comfort, care, and quality during an adventure in Rwanda.
