Joontos ended up being part of nearly every meal during our one-night visit, and lunch, dinner, and breakfast were all creative and full of flavor. The team, especially Saleh, Ibrahim, and Abo Baker, also made us feel very welcome. Dar Tantora has a quiet, unusual charm. The restored old-town buildings and lantern-lit lanes at night made it feel like stepping back in time. Our room had plenty of character and was comfortable. Candles provide most of the light after dark, though portable lamps are available when you need one. The care taken to keep the place authentic really stood out. We were only there for a night, but it felt unforgettable. I’d love to come back.

The massage and facial were a real highlight. I had an hour of hot stone and deep tissue massage, and the skilled therapist left me feeling relaxed and refreshed. The facial was lovely too, and left my skin glowing. Dar Tantora House Hotel sits in AlUla Old Town, and the restored property and traditional Arabian decor give it a strong sense of place. Our room felt thoughtfully decorated, and natural ventilation, with the hotel using only 20% electricity, added to its eco-friendly character. In the evenings, candlelight made everything feel peaceful and romantic. We also enjoyed unwinding by the pool. The restaurant served flavorful, well-presented local food. Staff were warm from the moment we arrived, and our personal butler was wonderful about taking care of even small requests. I’d suggest visiting between October and May, when the weather is more pleasant. Summer heat may make it less appealing, but for us the stay was a memorable way to experience Arabian culture. I’d happily recommend Dar Tantora for a distinctive AlUla getaway.

A few practical things to know: the stairs up to the rooms could be difficult for older guests or anyone with mobility issues. The lighting is deliberately very dim, with candles, and that can feel dark. There’s no kettle or tea and coffee setup in the room either. The pool is open, so people driving by can see you, although the view over the AlUla Oasis is beautiful. What I loved was how easy it was to step straight into the Old Town from the hotel, especially in the evening. Dar Tantora The House Hotel has a luxurious Arabian feel, and the property is right in the heart of AlUla. The staff were attentive, with butler service available around the clock. At check-in you’re introduced to senses, though while fasting during Ramadan I could only try a few. Hamza at Front Office made arrival smooth and was warm and professional. Joontos was another bright spot, with delicious Spanish/ Saudi food in a lovely setting. It was a memorable, elegant, authentically Arabian stay, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something special in AlUla.

The breakfast and pool were particular highlights, and the hotel is really close to the old town. Everything else felt top-notch too. The room is designed to be quite dark in the evening, which some people may like, but I’d have appreciated a portable light option to brighten it up a bit.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here in summer unless you’re comfortable with the heat in Saudi. The hotel doesn’t have AC throughout. There’s a portable unit in one bedroom, but it’s louder than I expected, and the other rooms don’t have AC.
