Merfal Hotel Apartments Al Taawun

The room service let things down. Staff seemed unresponsive, and even simple requests took a long time, so that needs improvement. The location was excellent for nearby attractions and amenities, though, and the rooms were clean and well kept. For the price it was decent, especially if location matters more to you than service.

We left after an hour because we immediately felt ill. The room and bathroom were filthy, and the place was so dark it seemed meant to hide the dirt. It smelled of cigarettes and mothballs. We lost $70 for the night, but leaving felt worth it. Please don’t trust the staged pictures. I don’t usually write negative reviews, but I felt other travelers should know for their safety.

It’s a cheap, average place, so don’t expect luxuries. The room is apartment-like, but the floor was not very clean and felt somewhat slippery. The bathroom was really bad, with poor drainage, and there were no bath towels. It did have a safe locker, iron, and hair dryer.

The reception was empty when I arrived to check in, and after I’d waited a while, abdulatif al dossari showed up. When I asked why nobody was there, he gave me an angry look 😡 and I was genuinely scared he might attack me. Worst experience ever. Raj was a nice guy.
