La Residence

We returned in February 2026 for our second holiday here and were delighted again. We think it's the best choice in southwest Mahé. The whole team works hard to make guests happy and help them enjoy their stay. Receptionist Mrs. Mayna leads a staff who are willing, kind and helpful, with excellent service. Many thanks to all of them. This time we booked one of the separate villas, after staying in an apartment in the main building in 2024. The complex has a main building with six smaller apartments, a reception building with a small dining room and service facilities, and three larger standalone bungalows. It's all in a traditional colonial style. Our villa was very spacious and airy. The huge main room opens partly onto the terrace, with a beautiful view over Anse La Mouche bay and its lush tropical vegetation. The room has an unusually high ceiling, a dining table and chairs, sofa bed, TV, telephone and a powerful ceiling fan with a remote. The kitchen is open to the main room and has a fridge, stove, microwave, kettle, toaster and enough equipment to cook just like at home. The furnishings aren't new, but they're functional, well maintained and entirely adequate. There are two bedrooms for two people, each with comfortable beds, strong AC and its own bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet and bidet. Shower pressure is a little low, but hot water is always available. There are plenty of UK-style power sockets and no electricity problems. The place could comfortably fit six people. It feels safe, with enough fire extinguishers, security on site, and a small safe for valuables and documents. Weekday cleaning is daily, thorough and includes careful insect control. Some insects are to be expected in the tropics, though. Cute little geckos also help keep them down. They move across the ceilings because the main rooms are partly open, with no windows, just wooden shutters with holes and protective grilles. They're harmless and fun to watch. I hadn't realized geckos make a strange sound like a small dog quietly barking. Reception has a small lending library, and laundry service is available. Free filtered drinking water means you don't have to carry large bottles from the shop. There's also plenty of free parking. The property sits a little apart from the village's main development in a carefully kept garden. Mango trees grow right in front, and giant local bats come to feed on the fruit in the evenings, which is a great chance to watch them. Access is safer now, with a new sidewalk and barriers along the coastal road, plus public lighting. You can hear some road noise from above, but it's not too bad, and the lights aren't bothersome at night. This is a quiet place for a family holiday surrounded by beautiful tropical nature, without noisy attractions. Very good value for money.
