Lazare Picault

The beach right outside is lovely, especially if you walk up toward the big rocks. It’s a small, pleasant hotel with friendly staff who are happy to help. The building feels a little dated, though that’s not surprising. Breakfast is simple but very nice.

We spent time on the balcony each morning watching stingrays in the water below. The view and setting are amazing, though the place is somewhat remote. There were roadworks during our visit, which was inconvenient for us, but they should be a good improvement for everyone, with sidewalks being added. It might take another two or three weeks, then it should be perfect.

Baie Lazare is quiet, and the scenery is beautiful. There are some lovely art galleries worth visiting, and nearby beaches are easy to reach by bus. The stop is right outside the hotel, with buses running about every 30 minutes. Anse Gaulette, just in front, was a bit of a letdown for us because of the strong currents, stingrays, and sharp coral and stones in the water. Our room had a great view across the bay, and it was spacious, bright, and clean. The staff were attentive and friendly, and breakfast was very good, with fresh fruit, cake, eggs, samosas, pancakes, and more. We enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Lazare Picault Hotel is a good fit if you’re after peace, nature, and walks. For more tourist facilities and a livelier scene, you may prefer another part of Mahé.

The long beach is nice for swimming, though some spots have seaweed; the areas near the rocks are better for snorkeling. The host is very friendly and has good suggestions for places to see. The rooms are comfortable, new, and nice. Since the hotel is on a hill, expect to climb stairs.
