Riverside Hotel & Apartments

The staff are great, and the location works really well for us. This is our go-to place whenever we're in Angelholm. The rooms in the annex are spacious and have kitchenettes.

The room was so cold that I had to wear sweatpants, a sweatshirt, a T-shirt, and the comforter to get through the night. The draft from the windows was awful, and the temperature seemed to top out around 59 to 60°. I even had to buy extra clothes at a local store. The bathroom was another problem: shower water ran across the floor toward the toilet, so there was a squeegee provided to push it away instead of standing in it. Getting luggage to the room was ridiculous. The elevator could take a suitcase up three flights, but there wasn't enough space for a person and a standard roller bag, so I had to send my case up and climb the stairs myself. The parking situation was just as bad. There was space for only about 4 to 5 cars, and they directed me to a garage that locked from 930 at night until 7 o’clock in the morning. I couldn't get my car out, and ended up late to work. When I arrived, the owner laughed at me for having a big travel bag, which was rude. I was told the room was ready, but the lights didn't work. I went back to the desk and asked them to fix it so I wouldn't have to use my phone flashlight. They did get the lights working. The bed was a small twin, like a child's bed, and was very uncomfortable for me at 6 foot three and 250 pounds. I also had to change my trip and called ahead to say I needed to leave early. The owner said that was fine and told me to check out by 11 o’clock. I drove back from work, packed, and got downstairs before 11, but he then refused to refund the next day because it was less than 24 hours' notice. He said he would refund the following day if I sent him my credit card information. This is a very poor excuse for a hotel. The previous owners were 10 times nicer, even though the place was outdated, and they kept it up. I'd tell anyone looking to stay in and go home to choose the best Western in town or out of town. This place is a joke, a waste of time and money. I wouldn't stay again even if the rooms were free. I can share comments and pictures by email.

The positives were a central location, a generous, good breakfast buffet, and owners who were friendly and let us bring a dog and an extra guest who joined us spontaneously. I can imagine coming back for another stay, since it was a bit like a Swedish version of Faulty Towers. But check-in was a catastrophe. The owner insisted I'd booked for the next month and shouted that it was January, even though we were in February. Our room hadn't been cleaned well, with bed linen both in and outside the bed. The lights weren't plugged in, and one bedside light had no outlet. At breakfast, the owner's wife ate straight from the buffet with her own spoon, dipping it in and out of the prawn salad. Quite an experience.

The breakfast was poor, and there wasn't normal milk or oat milk, just some kind of soy drink that all tasted like cereal. The coffee was no good either. We were put in another building, with no elevator for luggage, and the light switches were on timers, so we couldn't charge a phone overnight. I wouldn't recommend it.
