The atmosphere here is great, helped by the restaurant’s spot right beside the promenade. Service was okay, but the food was pretty average and the portions small. I recommend the place.

Ebbas has real charm and its own personality. I thought giant schnitzels were only found in Central and Eastern Europe, but I was wrong. They have giant schnitzels, friendly prices, kind and quick service, eclectic decor, and a huge garden. A real pearl in the middle of Borgholm!

The garden is semi-cozy, and the staff seemed genuinely troubled by our complaint. That’s the only thing that saved Ebbas from a one-star rating. The food was terrible and overpriced. We asked about vegan choices and were offered a vegetarian Oumph soy protein burger that could be made vegan. It sounded great, so we ordered two. What arrived were two sad plates of soggy fries and cold Oumph, still frozen in parts, between buns with a big quarter of a pickle. I went in and asked for two heated burgers. After waiting 10-15 minutes, we got two similar plates to the ones we’d sent back, just slightly warmer. Go for the garden, not the food.

The meat was okay, but the potato gratin had that powdered-cheese taste you get from the cheap supermarket bags. Prices were okay. You order and pay at the bar, then they bring the food out.

A few slices of garlic bread took 45 minutes to arrive, and the coffee tasted watered down. Felt like a tourist trap.
