First Camp Ekerum

We found it a relaxing place to get away, with lovely views and a peaceful setting. The facilities were clean and well looked after, and the staff were helpful and friendly. There’s plenty to do, including hiking and biking, with the beach nearby. Local attractions are close enough to make First Camp Ekerum a handy base for exploring. A refreshing outdoor stay for families or solo travelers, and highly recommended.

We stayed one night in a small cottage, sharing it with another family. It had small bedrooms with single beds and one room with a double bed, plus a kitchen with cookware, an oven, microwave, air conditioning, outdoor seating and two toilets. We brought our own food since we had cars. The office shop by the entrance has a limited selection and opens at 8 am. Supermarkets are hard to find nearby, and opening hours on Öland are shorter. Bikes and other things can be rented at the entrance. The campsite was well organized, with parking beside the camping houses and lots for kids to do, including swimming and biking. For what we paid, the Villavagn room wasn’t satisfying. The heating and shower water heater seemed to have limited capacity, so the stay felt like poor value. We had an unpleasant experience at First Camp Ekerum.

I didn’t stay at the campsite, just went to the beach. The water is warmer than elsewhere because it’s in a bay, and Boda has a few small sandy islands several dozen meters from shore where the water is only about 30 cm deep. It can feel like a private beach, and I’d recommend it for families with small children. The entry into the water is quite stony, though, and could use more sand.
