Hälluddens Stugby och Vandrarhem

We all slept like babies here. The place was peaceful in mid-August, and the owners were kind and very helpful. Our small, simple cabin had what we needed: a well-equipped kitchen, an adequate bathroom, and comfortable beds. I’d read that some people found it unclean, but that wasn’t our experience. There’s a lovely garden for morning coffee, plus a short path through the forest down to the sea. It’s also just a few minutes’ drive from lots of interesting spots on Öland. We’re really glad we chose it for our Swedish holiday, and I’d recommend it for a nice break at a very reasonable price.

There are wonderful places to visit nearby, and it’s a peaceful little paradise. We came back for a second visit this year and are sure we’ll return in the years ahead. We’d booked a small house, but the owners gave us a larger apartment instead. The houses were clean and pleasant, and the owners were extremely kind and helpful. It’s a beautiful spot for a holiday.

The heat and lack of ventilation made the room miserable. We had to leave the door open for air, there was no privacy for sleeping, and insects kept coming inside. My dog suffered from the humidity, and I didn’t sleep all night. The blankets and bed weren’t proper, the dishes were dirty, and the shared toilet and shower areas were awful. I paid $150 for one night in a family cottage with a terrace, but the owner, an older woman, put us in two tiny separate cabins without a shower or toilet. I tried to cancel, but she wouldn’t listen to what I was saying. I would have been better off sleeping in my car. It ruined my vacation, and this is the worst place I’ve stayed during all my travels. I really don’t recommend it.

The stuga was warm, clean, and very quiet, with a quaint cabin feel like a summer home. The staff were really friendly. They’ve been running the place for 40 years. I’d recommend it for a quiet one- or two-night getaway while seeing the sights of Öland.
