Storhogna Högfjällshotell och Spa

The Skicenter across the street was a bright spot, with very friendly staff who were helpful when we rented skis. We also loved the beautiful nature around the hotel and in Klövsjö. The owner listened to our complaint and refunded the two nights left on our stay, which we appreciated. We'd been looking forward to Storhogna Högfjällshotell & Spa, especially after several conversations with staff beforehand about pandemic safety. But at reception, the first thing we heard was that we had to hurry because dinner's last seating was in ten minutes and we could only stay two hours. That felt like a poor welcome when we'd paid a premium price. The dining room had more than 50 people. We told the host we didn't feel safe, so they seated us in reception, and even our waiter said he didn't feel safe. The hotel didn't seem to be taking the safety measures we expected. Kids were running everywhere, like a full-on daycare, so we ended up eating in our room. The food was awful. My husband couldn't even eat it, and it was worse than canteen food. There were candy wrappers under the bed from a previous guest. Worried about cleanliness, we disinfected the whole room ourselves when we arrived. We spent the night debating what to do because the experience wasn't shaping up to be pleasant. We were paying 5000 kr per night and felt tricked by the daycare atmosphere and horrible food. As paying guests, we expected what we'd paid for and definitely didn't get it. After the long drive, we stayed one day to ski. I wouldn't recommend the hotel. Maybe it could work off season, at a lower price and with no expectations about the food, or for a big family where kids can roam free. As a couple paying premium prices, go somewhere else.

Storhogna worked perfectly for a few days of day hikes instead of going hut to hut. There are great routes straight from the front door, and I wish I'd had a whole week to explore them. Coming back to a nice hotel, delicious food, then an evening swim and sauna was a real luxury. Can't wait to return!

The lounge and restaurant were beautiful, with big indoor trees and a little stream that made for a cool atmosphere in the middle of winter. The outside was even lovelier, the food was good, and the bar drinks were better. I'd call it more like 3.5 stars. We were there for a romantic weekend, but the two twin beds pushed together kept coming apart, so we couldn't even lie in the middle. The spa was disappointing too: just a nice pool and a small jacuzzi that was always overcrowded. The saunas were split by male and female, so I couldn't enjoy one with my fiancé. It's a great ski stay, but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic weekend or if you're going for the spa.

A true favorite, this very cosy hotel is close to nature and has a beautiful indoor garden and pool.
