Breakfast was the standard Swedish hotel spread, mostly industrial products. I tried the shrimp sandwich for dinner, but the shrimp were soggy and still wet from their juice. It was also exorbitantly priced, as was the local beer. Service was almost nonexistent, and the rooms were missing plenty of small things that would make a stay easier. The Bergshotellet was easily the worst of the 20 hotels we stayed in during our 20-day road trip through northern Scandinavia from Switzerland. It’s a grey cube with balconies hanging off all four sides, some occupied by overweight, half-naked men drinking beer. You get there only by a dirt road, and it looks out over a ski slope that isn’t very attractive in summer. The rooms seem set up for families of four in winter, but the price is the same for a solo guest or a couple. A place I’d avoid.

The staff were really welcoming, and there’s a small activity room for kids. We liked the room, breakfast was good, and the location is excellent. Järvsö is great for outdoor activities, and the hotel is right in the middle of everything, with literal ski-in, ski-out access. We’ll definitely return if we go to Järvsö again.

The breakfast buffet at Bergshotellet was delightful, and the hotel is right by the lifts. We visited Järvsöbacken in Sweden recently with our family and had a great experience. It was quite calm when we were there, and the whole team helped make the stay fantastic for us, two adults and an 11-year-old. The staff, especially those at the lifts and the ski/snowboard school, were so cheerful and kind, which made our time on the slopes more enjoyable. Järvsöbacken exceeded our expectations with its welcoming atmosphere and wonderful staff. We’re already planning to come back next year. Five stars without a doubt!

The three-course dinner with drinks came to nearly 1000 SEK (€100) per person. The cooking has a modern Scandinavian feel, in a good way, but the service had that same quality in a bad way. It felt far from a good, mature establishment: not much flexibility, food coming out wrong, slow service, and we had to ask for menus, water, cutlery, and more.

We had a great experience with the service, and they took care of our special requests. From the balcony there’s a wonderful view over the slopes, and the ski-in, ski-out location in Järvsö is perfect. I’d definitely stay here again.
