I only went for the dog sledding, and it was an amazing experience. The dogs were lovely, and after the run we got to meet and play with the puppies. I’d recommend going while there’s still some light so you can enjoy the view.

The dogs can visit freely, though you need a staff member to go into a kennel. One thing to know is that you need to book an event in advance. We missed that, so don’t make the same mistake we did. The lodge itself was really cozy for a winter break. My family and I stayed in “Alamo,” a cozy room with one double bed and one single bed. Rooms are named after the dogs who lived there before. There are two living rooms, one with a TV and one with a fireplace. Breakfast has some good options, and you can bring your own food too. Guests have a fridge for their things, separate from the staff fridge. Skiers have a slope a few minutes away. We used the app “Aurora” to see where the Aurora was and get a notification when viewing conditions looked best, as long as it wasn’t cloudy or snowing. We’ll come again next year!

The Husky Lodge worked well for us, though it’s hostel-style accommodation with shared facilities, so you’ll enjoy it if that suits you. The sled ride is a slow trot, and I’d choose daytime: at night, you can barely see anything beyond the rider’s headlamp. The towels were also very thin and scratchy, so bring your own if that matters to you.

We spent a week at the husky lodge and had an awesome time. The team took great care of us, and it’s an experience we won’t forget anytime soon. Make sure you take a dogsleding tour too, it’s unforgettable. I think the negative reviews mostly come from people expecting something different. This isn’t a five star hotel: you share the kitchen and bathroom with other people. If you’re fine with that, the husky lodge is for you.

Getting there is a bit difficult without a car since it’s a little out of the way. Once there, the kitchen is handy for storing meals and has cooking essentials. Breakfast includes lots of juices, yogurt, cereal and bread, so you can make a sandwich or boil eggs. The house is clean and cozy with its decorations, and the toilet is spacious. You can adjust the room and house heaters. The dogs were super cute, and Gös and his team handled them very professionally.
