Hotel Park Allé

The room was clean and comfortable, just what my wife and I wanted for a night while passing through. We hadn’t booked, but the very nice woman at the desk found us a room. Breakfast was a welcome extra. The hotel is in the city centre, with lots of shops, restaurants and bars nearby, and it’s easy to get around on foot. There’s free street parking overnight. The building is older, but I found it clean and comfortable and would definitely stay again.

The location was great, the bed was fine and everything was clean, but for the price the experience was very disappointing. Being met by a locked door didn’t make me feel welcome. Breakfast was okay, but without the excellent fresh bread I’d have found it plain and boring. My small room was run down, and one of the lights didn’t work. I don’t mind worn charm, but this felt rather unsexy.

The breakfast was good, and the hotel is right in the centre of town. Still, I wouldn’t stay here again, no matter how many plaques of greatness are displayed on the front wall. This is an old house converted into a hotel, and the rooms are the worst part. The red carpet leading to them is nicer than the rooms themselves. The shower and toilet are tiny and tucked into a wardrobe cabinet. There are extension leads for electricity, which seem like a fire hazard, and the wall lights have broken knobs. The room is dark because the economy bulbs don’t give much light.

There’s free overnight parking in front of the hotel, a park across the street, and the bus and train stations are within walking distance. It’s right in the city centre, with plenty of restaurants nearby and a shopping centre about five minutes away. Rooms vary in size, so you might get a small or large one depending on luck. The rooms are decent, breakfast spread is okay, and there’s an elevator. Check-in hours are limited.
