Turistgården - House Of Ven

Dinner was fantastic, and the fig leaf ice cream was something special. The atmosphere and service were both great. I’d definitely recommend eating here.

We were left waiting so long that our day trip fell apart. After we’d ordered, it took 20 minutes for staff to tell us our dish wasn’t available. They rarely checked on us otherwise. Then we waited another hour before learning the replacement order hadn’t reached the kitchen. Half an hour after that, we were the last table there. They charged full price, with no free meal offered. The upholstery looked tired, but at least it was quiet while we waited. We’d already seen the Brahe museum, thankfully, but lost our chance to explore the rest of Hven by bike before the ferry left. Our day trip was ruined. If you want to waste time and money, have lunch here.

The inside was beautiful, and the service was incredible. We biked past and managed to book a table an hour before it opened. It turned out to be the best meal we’d had in Sweden so far. We shared the local charcuterie board and deer carpaccio to start, both amazing. For mains, we tried the cabbage stuffed with barley risotto, the pork with smoked butter, and the classic Swedish meatballs. Nothing fell short of what we hoped for. If you’re going to Vien, make sure you reserve a table.

Right in the heart of Ven, I could walk back to the ferry and enjoy the horizon and the pheasant in the autumn fields. I was welcomed so warmly, ate really good food, and loved the decor and atmosphere. The room was simple but clean, with a comfortable bed, and I slept very well.
