Fabriken Furillen

The setting is breathtaking, and the staff were excellent on both visits. I stayed last year, then came back this year for dinner, and the food and service were great each time. Dinner is a set menu, so you’re leaving the choices to the chef, which won’t suit everyone. It isn’t cheap, but I thought it was good value for the money.

Breakfast was great, though there’s no proper lunch offering at the hotel. Dinner is usually lovely, but it’s a fixed set of courses every night, with no à la carte choice, so you’re entirely in the chef’s hands. Ask the staff if you’re unsure about that. The old industrial area, its disused buildings and the surrounding landscape make a striking setting. The main building has been turned into a boutique hotel, with friendly staff and comfortable, very nice rooms that are spartan in style.

We’ve just arrived, and so far there’s no café, shop, information or much to do or see during the day, as far as we can tell. Reception didn’t offer any help or information. If you’re after somewhere with a Chernobyl kind of feel, this might be the place.

I only stopped to look around, but the place is beautifully decorated with a feel of the local landscape, and the views are lovely.
