Norrqvarn Hotel & Resort by Vänerport

The surroundings were really beautiful, and it’s very kid friendly. The young woman behind the counter was hospitable, and we got a refund for the hot dog since we couldn’t eat it. But most of the food was poor: the only edible things were a boring salad from the lunch “sallad bar” and fries from the children’s menu. The reheated hot dog was so salty it was inedible. The adult meat was dry, the sauce thick and cold, and the chanterelles came from a can. Coffee and tea were included with lunch, but the coffee was awful. I’d skip the food here. We also saw a young man from the ice cream kiosk walking toward it while wildly giving two other young women the middle finger. When we went into the restaurant for coffee, staff were all talking about personal matters, and they kept at it as guests came and went.

We had a lovely afternoon here, starting with lunch and then renting a canoe for an hour. Both the meal and the canoe were very good value, and the staff were lovely and helpful. It’s a very family friendly place. Highly recommended!

We’ve enjoyed coming here for years, often when we have visitors or want a nice environment, and it’s still a great place for small children. Kids can hire a little boat, though the price has gone up by 20kr, and they can get an ice cream when they return it. But this year was disappointing. There’s now a sign saying parking costs money, and we’re no longer allowed to bring a picnic, which we used to do on quick stops or bike rides. It feels stingy. Last year the staff were rude, ignored us, and seemed inexperienced. New owners have taken over, and I wish them well, but if things carry on like this, they may run the place into the ground.

The hotel is nicely located near the Götakanal and a lovely playground for kids. When we got stuck in Norrkvarn, the staff kindly drove us back to a nearby town and wouldn’t take any money, even though we offered. We’ll definitely stay here next time we’re in the area.
