Hotel Lapland River

The mattress was very soft, and we both had back pain after sleeping on it. Since we had little contact with staff during the holiday period, I can't fairly judge their service overall. We were also grateful that the owner took us in over New Year, when many places were closed, and we know cooking in the room wasn't appropriate. Our stay lasted seven nights after our car broke down in Sweden. On check-in, there was barely any front desk service and nobody explained the facilities. We didn't know there was a shared kitchen or sauna until we read online reviews later. The kitchen signs were only in Swedish, which was hard for international guests staying briefly to understand. I became ill while nearby restaurants were closed for the holidays. With no staff around to ask, my husband made some simple noodles in the room, which set off the smoke alarm. We opened the windows straight away, checked there was no smoke left, and went downstairs, but couldn't find anyone. We called the hotel and were told someone would come. Around ten minutes later, the owner arrived and shouted at us for quite a while, very emotionally. My husband apologized several times and tried to explain, but the owner didn't listen and kept shouting before leaving. He came back twice more, pounding hard on the door before entering. During the second visit, he came in without our consent while I was still sick in bed. He went straight to the bed area, shut the window we'd left slightly open for ventilation, and loudly asked why it was open in such cold weather. A few minutes later he banged on the door again, entered for a third time, still visibly agitated, and took my husband to show him the shared kitchen. That was the first clear explanation that guests could use it. On two separate occasions in the days afterward, while we were still staying in the room, staff unlocked our door from outside, saying they were doing routine checks and had forgotten it was occupied. There was no “Do Not Disturb” sign, and that left us feeling very insecure for the rest of the stay. I later read other public guest reviews and saw some describing similar communication issues with the owner, so I felt this might not have been an isolated experience. Communication, information for guests, privacy, and personal boundaries all need significant improvement.
