For cross country skiing, filling breakfasts, and really good dinners, this is the sort of classic mountain hotel to book. It was here long before anyone came up with the term “mountain lodge.” Highly recommended.

The rustic interior is full of wood, traditional paintings, and objects connected with hunting and life in the North. It feels extremely cozy and has a lot to look at. The restaurant serves northern, wild sourced food like reindeer, moose, grouse, rowanberry, and cloudberry. Some of these dishes may be hard to find elsewhere. Aside from seafood, this has been my most authentic and interesting dining experience in Sweden so far.

The room was roomy and clean, with little shampoo samples, which I love. Breakfast was incredible, and the stay felt well worth the price. The restaurant is really good, though a bit pricey, and it’s clear that’s where they make their money. Dress up a little: we’d just come off Kungsleden and felt seriously underdressed. We paid 1200 for two people for one night, including breakfast, and parking was free.
