Söderköpings Brunn

We waited nearly two hours for our room, even though check-in was supposed to be at 3 pm. It took about an hour before the rather indifferent staff offered us refreshments. For a hotel with ambitions, that just isn't good enough. The building itself is beautiful, with lovely old interiors, including the bar and restaurant. Our room was clean and had the basics, though it felt a little dull. Breakfast was slightly above average, but the time slot in the welcome email was wrong and cost us an hour of sleep. During breakfast, staff also asked me for my room number three times.

The staff were so kind to me, even the manager during dinner, and as a solo traveler from South Korea visiting in 2022, that meant a lot. I hadn’t seen any other solo travelers, and the long trip there felt a bit lonely. My small room was cozy and good enough, the food was amazing, and I’m taking this unforgettable memory back to korea. Thanks so much again. I’d give the place 20 out of 10 👍👍

The three-course menus were superb, and breakfast had fewer options than usual but better quality. A really nice hotel right by the river in Söderköping center, with a spa and an outdoor pool.

We went to the spa on the second morning, half an hour before opening because we hadn’t checked the hours. An employee offered to open it early for us, which was very kind. Having the place to ourselves was great. It was peaceful, with free juice and fruit, steam and dry saunas, a bubble pool, rainforest shower, ice room, and candles all around that made it feel cozy. The hotel has loads of character and beautiful original details. It’s built around a well once famous for its health-giving water, and the old well is still under glass in the lobby floor. We were a group of eight, with a wide mix of ages and opinions, and had a suite, family room, double room, and single room. All were nice, with soft beds and good amenities, though they varied a lot between the two connected buildings. The single and suite were in the newly renovated old section; the family and double rooms were in the annex and felt a bit cramped. The food was thoughtful and full of flavor, but the bar and restaurant seemed short-staffed. Before dinner we waited about 20 minutes to order a drink, and the head waiter was nowhere around when it was time to seat us. Dinner had several mix-ups: one extra starter, three people got their mains well before everyone else, and we were given a bottle of the same wine at twice the price without being told. There was also an extra main. Those things were honestly fine, but nobody apologized, and the extra dishes and expensive wine were still on the bill at the end, even though we hadn’t touched them and sent them back right away. You can book a private dining room, and you need to let them know ahead if you want the set menu. Some hiccups, but all in all, a good stay.
