Lagunen Cottages and Hostel

We had loads of room in the electricity tent area, and the campsite's atmosphere and water views were gorgeous. Where you're pitched, who's nearby, and how busy it is could make a difference to the experience, though. The tent area is across a main road from the rest of the campsite, but there's still a lovely kitchen, clean toilets, a playground, laundry, and a shared place to eat. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and really went above and beyond. Our kids loved swimming, the sauna, and being by the water. When we visited in August 2025, there were lots of tiny harmless jellyfish in the water. We also saw one more painful jellyfish and kept clear of it. We loved this campsite, right on the water in such an idyllic spot. It's one of our top five campsites in Europe.

The river was calm in front of our tent, even with motorboats, jet skis, and paddle boats passing now and then. We stayed in one of the three canvas glamping tents at Lagunen Camping, down by the water, and it felt wonderfully secluded. The tent and its setting were beautiful, the two double beds were comfortable and spacious, and we liked the sheepskin chairs and outdoor seating. The kitchen had everything you need. We didn't cook because a mouse had got into our car and eaten our food, so we went to Strömstad for dinner instead. Our neighbors cooked regularly, and it looked fun. You drive up a hill from reception and park near the shower and toilet building, where there's another kitchen. A cart is available for your bags, then it's a steep walk down that takes around three to five minutes. The walk to the toilets is quite far, so I wouldn't recommend the river tents for families with small children. If you want peace and quiet, this is a lovely place. We were struck by how beautiful it was. The people at reception were really friendly. One of them helped me with the motorboat we rented, which was great fun. We also enjoyed crab fishing with our children, and all the kids were busy catching crabs. The atmosphere was great. There's a little shop with the essentials, and Strömstad is only five minutes away. The weather was terrific while we were there, which may have helped, but the whole place felt relaxed and peaceful. We fell in love with it and would come back.

The showers need attention. Water barely drained, leaving puddles, and one shower's sensor kept switching between the wall jet and the hand spray or turning off by itself. They call it hot water, but it was barely above cold. I gave four stars because the landscaping and layout are second to none. The location is incredible, the little store is well stocked, and there are lots of facilities and options. All the staff were very helpful and spoke English fluently.

We had a great time with the mountain bikes and motorboat, and the private sauna out on the water was fun too. The Ocean camp tent, with its fireplace, was really enjoyable, and the equipment was high quality. All the staff were kind and helpful.
