We were turned away from Fjällbacka Camping yesterday because there was no room for our two small tents. We're cycling from Kiel via Gothenburg to Norway with our four children, aged 8-14. The site was full, which does show how popular it is, but even at the end of long days with tired children, this is the first time we've been refused a place. We couldn't book ahead because we never know how far we'll manage to get with the children each day. A car or motorhome can move on more easily, but we had to cycle another 15 km north to the next campsite, late in the evening with exhausted kids. Maybe the site could keep a small emergency spot for cycling travelers, especially families with children.
We pitched our tent on a big, comfortable plot with no stones or pine cones, and there was a nice place to wash dishes. Most campers seemed to be in motorhomes or trailers, though there are a few tent spots, so book early. It's a popular place, no wonder. The site is clean and friendly, with facilities that all worked as they should. Set among huge round rocks, it's close to the sea and a nearby town. A great little campsite, highly recommended.
We had a great welcome, and the little town is lovely. The pitches are large and on stable ground. There's one new toilet block and one older one. Showers use a code and cost 5SEK for 3 mins. You can hire bikes, and there's beach access. It's very quiet at night, but popular, so book in advance. The location is beautiful. Take the boat trip around the islands, it was a great experience.
On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way. The beach is a short walk away, and the washing and utility areas are good and clean. There are many campsites, with visitors from Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republik, and France, as well as Swedes staying all year. It takes 10 minutes by bike to reach town and "Kungsklyftan". From there, it's another 15 minutes on foot to a stunning view over the islands to the Atlantic Ocean.
A nice little campsite about 1-2 kms out of town, with all the amenities. It's probably better suited to motorhomes and caravans, but there's a nice area for a few tents too. Some great lookouts and the beach are easy to reach on foot.
