The location is a real plus, right by the cathedral and close to the castle and botanical gardens. Breakfast was decent, and the scrambled eggs were some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s a small buffet, though, and the hotel has more of a basic B&B feel. It’s pet friendly, which earns it an extra star from me, and the pet rooms were fine. Our “superior” room felt more like a standard double. There was no kettle or coffee maker, but you could get complimentary hot drinks in the restaurant while it was open. The front desk also wasn’t staffed around the clock. One other heads-up for light sleepers: the nearby bells ring every 15 minutes. That’s not the hotel’s doing, but it could bother you. It’s a cute, quiet place and the value is OK. I’d consider it again for a business trip, though for a holiday I’d probably look elsewhere. They’re also due to open some suites soon, which could be worth a look.

The rooms are on the compact side, so check with reception before booking if getting around is difficult for you. Everything was spotless, and the location was great. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Just be ready for the cathedral bells: they ring continuously for three minutes at 6 a.m. Earplugs might help if you want to sleep in.

The breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were cosy with heated bathroom floors and city views from several spots. But what really impressed me was how patiently the staff handled my mistake. I’d gone on a day trip on the day I was meant to check out, thinking I had another night booked. After a few emails, they managed to pack my things and arrange a room for me at a nearby hotel, even though they were full. They were so kind on the phone and even helped me feel better about the mix-up. I’d never have expected that level of help. Definitely recommend.
