Särtshöga Vingård B&B

The owners were friendly, and I'd stay again, though I probably wouldn't book the tasting unless it featured only their own wines. We were offered three drinks: local cider, which was an interesting extra but not the reason to visit, one of their own sparkling wines, which was delicious, and French champagne. That last one disappointed me. Even though it was made from red grapes, it didn't feel special or rare, and I hadn't come to the Swedish countryside for a wine tasting to drink French wine. The tasting was the one part of the overnight package that let us down a little. The vineyard tour, dinner, and breakfast were all included in an excellent overnight stay. The sparkling wines were superb and, to our surprise, could hold their own against British or Tasmanian sparkling wines and plenty of champagnes. Dinner was the best I've had in Sweden, despite having visited many times: creative, tasty local dishes, with ingredients from nearby and some from the garden. We even saw the chef step out to pick things for the next course. Breakfast was very good too, with garden produce, fresh bread, and cinnamon rolls. One thing I hadn't expected, though it isn't the owners' fault, is that wine sales in Sweden have to go through System Bolaget. The vineyard's wines aren't sold elsewhere and can only be ordered at a handful of restaurants.
