Hotell Hässlö

Hotell Hässlö is a local family-owned hotel about 5 km from central Västerås and 2 km from Västerås airport. It has 49 rooms, all with a private tiled bathroom, TV and desk. The common areas are generous, with ping-pong and billiards rooms, a gym, sauna and a large TV and family room, so it works for short or longer stays. Prices are competitive, parking is free, and the room was clean and nice. Breakfast was okay. Arrival is self-service, and it all worked well.

The setting is so quiet and peaceful, and the place is super clean and comfortable. The building and amenities look new, and the downstairs gym, sauna and other facilities are high quality and self-arranged. There’s even a stereo in the gym for your own music. Free coffee and hot chocolate are available from the machine downstairs near the entrance, and there’s a great meal area with plenty of kitchen space for heating your own food. Check-in is straightforward with codes during the week: check your booking for the first entry number, get your card from the white cupboard inside, then enter 10 plus your room number on the card system and hold the card to the reader. The shower area is better than it looks on most booking sites. This is a hidden gem, easily the best place I’ve stayed in for quite a while. I’d stay again without doubt, God willing. A+ all around.

This sort of place isn’t for me. It’s a self-service hotel with little or no service, and there was no room service during my three-day stay. Getting in meant dealing with two sets of codes, and the inner door kept sticking. I had to push and pull it open, and got stuck outside for a while. The room was small, though the bathroom was okay. There are cheaper places with better service and amenities in the same area. While I was there, the hotel also seemed full of a noisy kids’ football team running around.

Friendly staff and efficient communication. The breakfast was nice, and there was plenty of parking. It’s well placed for a stopover when travelling with a fully loaded car and trailer, and the price was good for the quality.
