I tried a different room on each of my three stays at Cameo in April/May 2025, while doing my dive instructor course, and really enjoyed it. The rooms all have different themes, which was much more interesting than the same look you get in a brand hotel chain. Before each visit, the staff sent me details about my room, parking and other information. Breakfast at the cafe next door was decent, though there wasn’t anything I particularly missed. The room price was fair for somewhere right in the city center, where affordable stays aren’t a given. I was there off season, so I can’t say what the prices are in the middle of summer. I’ll most likely stay again when I’m back in Ystad.

The hotel is in a fabulous location, and its decor has an antique feel. There are lots of old books, or reprints of old books, in the rooms and hallways. A nice place to stay.

With decorations taking up so much space, there’s hardly anywhere to put your things in this tiny room. The layout was inconvenient for us too, with the toilet in one corner and the shower in another, meaning you have to cross the whole room to get between them. Breakfast at the nearby cafe was okay, but the experience felt quite crude.

Walking distance to pretty much everything, and Johan makes sure you’re looked after while you’re there. I’ve stayed here every time I’ve visited Ystad and will happily come back.

The room was a good size, bigger than some I stayed in during my time in Europe, and the location seemed very central. Staff were nice, and breakfast was great and free. There were cookies in the lobby, which made a good nighttime snack. The bathroom arrangement was the odd part: the shower and toilet are in separate rooms, so it feels more like a powder room with a detached shower. The shower only has glass doors, so someone staying with you could see you through the frosted glass.
