Tai Hoe Hotel

There was jackhammering from 8 a.m. until the afternoon, day after day, and I couldn’t rest or sleep. The noise was unbearable. The place was filthy and badly neglected, with torn, dirty towels, no hot water, and a door so broken I had to lift it to get in or out. The building seemed to be falling apart with no maintenance. Calling it a hotel feels like an insult. Even one star is too generous, and anyone with self-respect should stay far away.

I’d give zero stars if I could. The halls and rooms smelled mouldy, and the bed was hard as a rock. There was black mould in the bar fridge, and I found what seemed to be bed bugs in the blanket. I can’t describe how bad the place really was.

Dust was everywhere, and the management responded to the situation rudely and dismissively instead of offering an apology or help. I stayed from 2nd January to 4th January 2026, while major renovations were underway. The loud hacking continued throughout my stay, and I didn’t get even one proper hour of rest. Nothing about the renovation was mentioned when I booked, which was unacceptable given how severe the noise was. This completely ruined my holiday. I wouldn’t recommend staying until the work is finished and management treats guests with basic respect.

For one night, the location makes it acceptable: Tai Hoe Hotel is directly opposite City Square Mall and right by the Farrer Park MRT exit, and the price is reasonable. But the hotel is very old, and being roadside means you hear the busy traffic clearly. Light sleepers will need earplugs. There were no slippers or toothbrush in the room. The corridor smelled strongly of bleach, while the room had a strong vinegar smell. In the morning, doors opening and closing along the floor were so clear I thought my own door might have opened. I wouldn’t recommend staying more than one night.
