Mantis St Helena

Everyone at the Mantis was so friendly and helpful. Thank you to Itayi, Bob, Zara, Kalishwa, Jonathon, Raymond, and Joecelyn. We had a very comfortable, spotlessly clean room with a good bathroom, plus a TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and tea and coffee facilities. Such a lovely hotel in a great location.

It was handy being able to pay with international bank cards. The restaurant was good and reasonably priced, and the rooms were nice and comfortable. The staff were very friendly, and the location was the best.

The internet was the main snag during our eight nights at The Mantis on St Helena. It worked well in the room when it was available, but we had to ask for new passwords quite a few times. The included breakfasts were good, and lunch and dinner were available too, though the food was just okay. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and even had a birthday cake for me. It’s the best hotel to stay at while on the island.

The new manager seemed keen to improve the service and was very apologetic, even though the service was already reasonably good. On my visit last week, the hotel had just had a new manager parachuted in and there were very few staff. Still, the manager made an extra effort to keep our dinner group engaged while the meals were being prepared. The food was good and enjoyable compared with some other venues. My only observation was that the pudding choices were very limited, even with very few people using the restaurant. I’d suggest making it more appealing to local people with better local advertising, since the hotel’s services seemed little known while I was in town.
