*A Very Wonderful Mistake!* We thought we’d booked somewhere in the larger town of Kobarid, so finding out we were actually staying in the countryside was such a happy surprise. Magozd is a sleepy little village with just 72 people, tucked away from the crowds of outdoor tourists but perfectly placed for trails, waterfalls, and the gorgeous Soca River. We could step out the back door and onto the trails. During our three-week trip, our family stayed three nights in Tonin’s cozy, comfortable place, and we wished we’d had longer. Apartment Savli was easily our favorite stay in Slovenia. Tonin was a wonderful host, giving us space when we wanted it and chatting with us about hiking, local history, and world events. We had a lovely evening talking with him. One night we heard lively traditional accordion music, and learned it was Tonin’s son practicing. He played a couple more traditional tunes for us. The apartment was extremely tidy and well cared for. The artwork, maps, and guidebooks were all laid out nicely and suited our needs. *Highly recommended*

The apartment can sleep up to six, though it seems most comfortable for two or three. There’s one toilet and one shower in separate rooms, a big pullout sofa in the main room, and two double bunk beds in a separate dormitory. The kitchen has plenty of equipment, but no oven. There’s also a tiny vegetable garden where you can pick something fresh. Kobarid is about a five-minute drive away, with a well-stocked supermarket and recommended local food. Tonin is a discreet host who can help you make the most of your stay. Ask about hiking routes, places to eat local food, or local history and museums. The village is tiny, remarkably quiet and clean, and set among stunning rocky mountains and dark green forests. It’s a wonderful place to stay for as long as you can. I’d definitely come back in any season.
