The food was a four-star part of the stay for me, and the rooms and amenities maybe three, but the service was a one. I would not call this five-star accommodation. We arrived after a 15-hour trip, around 11 pm, and still had to argue at reception about our reservation and the room type we had booked. It took two hours to get keys, and the room was tiny and narrow, nothing like what we’d reserved. Staff took the keys to our rental car for paid valet parking, then left it in a place that barely seemed like a parking lot. Someone hit the car. They didn’t tell us right away, but waited until after I brought my credit card and they charged it. Nearly 48 hours had passed by the time they mentioned the damage. The staff were extremely rude and impolite, and their explanations and arguments felt unprofessional and unreasonable. We felt like we’d gone back to socialist Yugoslavia, where customers simply don’t matter. It seemed their priority was to charge your card and then forget about you. They kept lying, whether that was just their nature or what they’d been told to do. In more than 20 years and 30 countries, we’ve never dealt with people who felt so fake. There were bugs in both rooms we stayed in. At the spa, staff couldn’t even confirm my appointment time because of a major mistake in their booking system, so I was left waiting 1.5 hours. I decided not to wait. After leaving Portoroz and this awkward hotel, we had a much better time in the Slovenian mountains. I don’t want to insult the country or its people, but if you care about your time, money, vacation, and nerves, avoid this dump.

The location was really convenient, and we had lovely views from this newly renovated hotel. Our room was comfortable, with a nice bed and couch, and dogs are welcome. Breakfast was great, and the pools were nice and mostly clean.

The room was pleasant and the staff friendly, and breakfast was nice. Still, the room didn’t feel like five-star quality. What bothered me most was parking. A hotel claiming five stars should offer parking, whether included or paid, and let guests reserve a spot. That wasn’t the case here. If you arrive by car, you may have to park on the street and pay quite a lot.

The hotel and the place itself were more or less okay, but our experience with the reception staff was really disappointing. The two women, one blonde and slim, the other dark-haired and plumper, were rude and made no effort to explain things politely. We’d only asked one question. Not everyone is suited to that kind of job. If I were the boss, I’d seriously reconsider who I put at reception. It’s a shame they come to work with an attitude as if God had handed it to them.

Breakfast alone is worth it, there was pretty much everything you could think of and it was amazing. The service was also really nice and professional. I’d come back.
