It doesn’t feel like a 4-star hotel. Just look at the path to reception in the 5-star building. And the “private parking” feels like a rip-off, with no official connection to the hotel, only direct arrangements with the londiners.

This is a terrible place to stay. The building is separate from the main Metropol hotel, where reception and breakfast are located, and the path to it is dark at night. The rooms smell of mold, feel humid and, in most cases, have a bad view. Some seem intended for staff or long-term tenants. The place doesn’t feel 4-star; it gives more of a scam impression. The price is far too high for what you get. Cleaning was poor, and there’s clearly a management problem.

The room itself was good, with a very comfortable bed, and the area was quiet. The indoor pool was open and the wellness area was very good. There’s a bus stop about a 5-minute walk away for trips to Piran or Izola, but the street was under construction and very dark in the evenings. We used our phone flashlights. The rest was a frustrating experience for a 4-star hotel. Parking information said €10 in May, which we understood to mean public parking. At arrival they said it was €20, and explained the €10 price applied only when they had “cards” available. That sounded like a way of hiding the real price. Reception said public parking was full and advised us to park elsewhere if we couldn’t find a spot, perhaps getting a notification on the car the next day. Yet the lot had plenty of spaces, almost all marked CASSINO or HOTEL METROPOL, so we didn’t know where we were allowed to park. Bel Moretto is part of a complex with three buildings, but as a separate 4-star hotel it should have its own reception. The indoor path and the street outside were both very dark, as even the receptionist acknowledged. When our key caused a problem, nobody in our building could help, so we had to go to the other hotel. We saw other people struggling too. Imagine arriving tired and then having to walk elsewhere because you can’t get through a door that only opens with a card. Check-in was at Metropol. The receptionist stressed that it was a 5-star hotel and ours was a 4-star place outside that area. She tried to explain the route with a picture, but we ended up finding our hotel ourselves. The AC and minibar weren’t working. The bathroom got very wet after a shower. Breakfast at Metropol had variety but poor quality: cold food, machine-made juice, and not enough clean glasses or mugs. It’s a nice walk over in the morning, but not on a rainy day.

The spa was very nice, and the restaurant staff were consistently super friendly. The main host and restaurant manager stood out for always being welcoming and in a good mood. The food was average, though, and the bar closed at 11. At 10:45, the barista said she’d already shut the counter and wouldn’t serve us. Pretty disappointing. We stayed six days. The rooms were standard and nice enough, but we waited two days for housekeeping despite leaving the paper on the doorknob. Reception didn’t answer when I called several times for clean towels, so we had to fetch them ourselves. At check-in, we got no information about the facilities and had to figure things out, including that the large pool near the beach was free for guests. The first night, the parking area, which costs €13 a day, was full and we couldn’t use it. Does a 4-star hotel not have its own parking? The main hotel is meant to be 5-star, but it didn’t come close to that standard either. This wasn’t a 4-star experience.

The complex has three stylish hotels and some great facilities, including indoor and outdoor seawater pools and breakfast on a terrace with a breathtaking sea view. But the maintenance and service were nowhere near 4-star level. Our room’s AC ran constantly, set to 23 degrees with maximum ventilation, but the room stayed around 27-28 degrees. We reported it twice and were told a technician would come, but nothing changed. It was much the same with the safe: it didn’t work, and after several complaints a receptionist replaced the batteries without fixing it. He said he’d send a technician, who never showed up. We had to carry our documents, passports, car key and everything else with us to the pools and beach. We even asked for another room and raised these issues at reception, but nothing happened. There were three of us, two adults and a child, but we were given just one room card. When I asked for another, they said the hotel was overbooked and they didn’t have enough cards. The website offered public garage parking for €14 a day. At arrival, reception didn’t mention that we needed a hotel card for that rate, so I paid the normal price of €40 for the first two days. Only after I complained did they explain about the card, then said they were out of them. I asked again the next day and got the same answer, with no help. I eventually found out for myself that outdoor parking cost €13 a day. We didn’t receive compensation for these problems. It was also the first time in all my hotel stays that nobody asked at checkout if everything had been okay, probably because they knew it hadn’t.
