Hotel Opara

The room was clean and comfortable enough for a night on the road, with a great shower, good air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Leaving early was no problem. The letdown was dinner: we arrived on August 15, a public holiday, and the hotel restaurant was closed. The village had nowhere else open except a run-down kebab place, and even the supermarkets were shut. We’d counted on eating at the hotel when we booked, so ending our holiday with a cold, greasy kebab was disappointing.

We asked by phone at 12:25 for steak with potatoes and just a green salad. The waitress told us to come at 12:40, when it would be ready. We waited outside for ten minutes, then went in and found dirty floors and tables. After another five minutes, we saw two bags on the counter. Franci walked around for a while before picking them up, and by then the food was cold. It should have been ready at 12:35, but it was already 12:50. The salad was mixed instead of just green, as requested. When my mom pointed that out, Franci said the chef had forgotten and changed it. The bag even had a slip showing 12:35 and “only green salad.” We paid, but had to ask for a receipt, and Franci never apologized.

The mushrooms were very good as a starter, and the steak was good too, cooked medium plus. The staff were nice and the place comfortable enough. Dessert and white wine could be better.

The bathroom was nice, but the mattresses were lousy. It works fine for a night before driving home, though there isn’t much to do in town.
