Šport Hotel Donovaly

Participants came from across Europe for our international workshop at Hotel Šport, and the feedback was very positive. The staff were helpful and welcoming, the food was delicious, and the accommodation was pleasant. Many thanks to the whole hotel team. We’d gladly recommend it.

The pool and other facilities were a real plus. The swimming pools, sauna, jacuzzi, and gym were excellent, even though they’re spread across different floors. The children’s pool was roomy enough for little ones and had nicely warm water. The food had a wide choice and was great, the waiters were pleasant, and the cleaning staff were lovely, polite, and accommodating. They kept the room spotless and changed the towels regularly. I had a much worse experience with reception. The staff couldn’t answer basic questions like when checkout was or which number to call from the room, and nobody asked if I’d been satisfied when I left. Their interactions with guests felt weak. There was no dryer or other place in the room to dry things after winter sports, either. The children’s pool rules were posted, but around 70% of the adults ignored them and used it as a place to relax, almost like a jacuzzi. The lifeguards were especially disappointing: they read or slept, and when I asked them to address the situation, they asked what they were meant to do. I think enforcing the rules is part of their job. It’s a children’s pool with about 50 cm of water, intended for ages 0-8, and adults in it are undesirable from a hygiene standpoint since children are more prone to illness. Most of the adults there were parents of children over three, who could have sat by the pool’s edge as the rest of us did. I was generally satisfied with the hotel and its options for children, but these things spoiled the impression of the holiday. The pool sign should be moved to the left of the window so people see it when they enter, and the receptionists and lifeguards need retraining on their duties.

The people working there weren’t great at English, but it was fine. I loved the place: the rooms were immaculate, the pool was lovely, and the food was wonderful.

The prices felt a little higher than I expected, but the hotel has plenty to enjoy. There’s a nice area out front to relax, with some attractions for children, and the landscape around it is beautiful. The renovated wellness area has infrared, salt, and steam saunas, plus a small pool and a pleasant spot to unwind.
