AXIL Hôtel

The location was great, and the service was super. I booked a stay here before leaving Dakar from Saly. Breakfast was enjoyable, and the food I ordered was just okay. Cleanliness was okay too. I found a tiny roach on the first night of my two night stay, though I didn't see another one. The shower setup could be better: there was nowhere to put toiletries, and the towel bar was inside the shower, so the towels got wet.

The east facing rooms have little balconies with a nice view of the port on that side. It's a convenient location for business near sandaga market. The property has been renovated recently and seems well managed, with timely service. Staff are generally prompt, but they stick to the rules and won't make exceptions.

Breakfast was a highlight every morning, with a delicious, generous continental spread. Axil Hôtel is also ideally placed in the city centre, under a 10 minute walk from the ferry, train station, shops, and restaurants. I had a bird in my first room, along with street noise, but the staff were very helpful and moved me. After a bit of a wait, the team on duty found me a great room, even though it was smaller than the first. Payment isn't flexible, and sorting out rooms can be tricky when it's busy. Still, it's a solid choice for central access, good breakfast, and helpful staff.

Axil Hotel made a 2 a.m. arrival easy. I had messaged about checking in late after booking through Booking.com, and they quickly reassured me. When I got there, the doors were open and the lights were on. That was a relief at that hour. Thanks to Adja and everyone for being so kind and helpful throughout my stay. English isn't the staff's first language, but they still went out of their way to help despite my non-existent French. They found me a wash-and-fold service, tracked down someone to give me fresh braids, and even weighed my bags before the airport. Really lovely service. The laundry was quick and reasonably priced too. A place down the street wanted the same amount for washing and drying, and I'd have had to pick everything up myself. The room was small, but it had what I needed and was fine for two nights. If you've stayed in Europe, this size won't surprise you. Breakfast came with the room and was very good, with eggs made to order. The hotel is walkable to grocery stores, pharmacies, and everyday essentials. They can arrange a paid shuttle if you'd rather not walk. I'd happily stay here again for the warm staff and handy location.
