Villa Keur Bibou

We spent three nights here at the start of our trip through Senegal and The Gambia, five of us including three children aged 6-12. It was such a lovely first taste of “l'esprit teranga,” Senegal’s proud tradition of hospitality. Michel and his team looked after every need quickly and quietly, often before we even realized it. From an unexpectedly well-timed aperitif tray to a surprise jacuzzi, they paid remarkable attention to our comfort. We hadn’t experienced that kind of care anywhere else on our travels. The island was peaceful, with no vehicles, and just a short boat ride away, yet it felt far removed from busy Dakar. Lush gardens around the pool made it feel like a little oasis. With beaches and great restaurants a short walk away, it was a lovely base for exploring Senegal. The villa was spacious and clean, warmly decorated, with a well-stocked working kitchen and welcoming bedrooms. It’s full of art, curiosities, and a lifetime’s collection of exotic objects, but it still feels comfortable and relaxed, not like you have to be afraid of touching anything. Michel’s team, including the wonderful Nat, Mam Cher, and Lima, were there when needed and gave us room when we wanted it. We also had a taxi waiting at the airport to take us straight to the little beach, where a private boat is available at no charge whenever you need to travel between the island and the main Dakar peninsula.
